Riot has recently released several posts about the upcoming Season 5 of League of Legends. The content included changes that the new season will bring. Once again, the jungle will be revised, towers will be changed, and the new layout of the Summoners Rift is on the horizon.
Gameplay Changes in the Preseason
Before Season 5 begins in early 2015, players have time to test all gameplay changes extensively. The preseason is under the motto “More Strategic Diversity.” A change of the current meta? Not really. Riot means by strategic diversity the focus on individual objectives or lanes, which will change. Whether this will unintentionally alter the meta remains to be seen. To reprioritize the focus on individual objectives, the towers in League of Legends will receive different abilities: While the outer towers remain untouched, the inner ones will be given a regeneration shield, while the inhibitor towers will fire powerful energy beams. It is assured that the split-push strategy will be only slightly affected by this.
New Map, New Jungle
It has been clear for several weeks that the jungle will look different with the new design of the Summoners Rift. The currently published changes show even more changes. In short: Champions that have been rarely chosen before should also get a chance in the jungle. This step fits into the goal of strategic diversity. With a significantly greater possibility for junglers to react, almost every champion should be able to perform successfully between lanes in some way. Additionally, there will be more items that are supposed to change the jungler’s behavior.
On November 11, Season 4 ends. The start of the preseason is therefore just around the corner. Before we will extensively test the gameplay changes, we are looking forward to the open beta of the redesign of Summoners Rift!
