On September 19, an event starts in Last Epoch (Steam, Linux) and brings new features to the game that remind of the rival Diablo 4. Additionally, a complete cycle reset will take place.
What kind of event is this? The event “Imperial Uprising” runs from September 19 at 4:00 PM to October 20, 2024, at 7:00 AM and brings various new features to Last Epoch:
- Bonuses on gold, reputation, and the drop rate for uniques
- new undead enemies in the monoliths
- a type of treasure goblin, as known from Diablo 4
- 28 additional new shrines
- a new stash tab priority system
A complete cycle reset will take place as soon as the event starts. This means that all current cycle characters will move into “Legacy” and a new cycle with a fresh economy and new leaderboards will begin.
Recently, the new content update 1.1 “Harbingers of Ruin
” on July 9, 2024, already brought a feature to Last Epoch that resembled Diablo 4: dodging. Previously, it was not possible to dodge outside of specific skills with the player character in Last Epoch.
Shrines, “Treasure Goblins”, and Event Bonuses
What features resemble Diablo 4? Besides dodging, the event brings features to Last Epoch that many ARPG fans are already familiar with from Diablo 4. 28 new shrines will be added to Last Epoch, which according to the developers, will remain in the game even after the event. Shrines had already existed in the ARPG before.
Especially the new “Loot Lizards” (roughly: loot lizards) remind of known enemies from Diablo 4. Similar to the treasure goblins, these creatures drop loot, and there are five different types of them – with different loot pools. If you do not attack them, they will disappear. They will remain in the game after the event.
The reset to a new season, or in this case, to a new cycle, is also known from Diablo 4. This has already happened in Last Epoch, but this time it takes place as part of an event. The “Imperial Uprising” event provides you with bonuses that help you progress faster.
There are also regular events in Diablo 4 that provide players with bonuses.
Why is there a reset? The complete reset for the event allows all players a fresh start. In the forum, the developers state that the leaderboards and the bazaar will also be reset, and the economy will start anew. This is intended to create a balanced competition. Furthermore, they write that they do not plan any balance changes, as this is not the beginning of a new patch cycle but a refresh and restart of the economy from 1.1.
The developers state specific reasons for the reset:
- Difficulty balance: The abilities and efforts of the players should determine the game’s difficulty, not the ability to exploit game mechanics.
- “Quality of Life” adjustments: The developers are making some QoL changes. Waiting for a new cycle would take too long, and they do not want to impose that on the community.
- Feedback: A cycle event is a good opportunity to implement feedback from the community and gather feedback for related features.
Besides features that resemble Diablo 4, Last Epoch has a function that many players miss in the rival.
