Baldur’s Gate 3 allows players to switch all companions to different classes to utilize new tactics. Larian revealed for the 2nd anniversary of the game that only 350 players assigned a new class to a character, which might seem confusing at first – but the community knows why it can make sense.
Which character was switched to which class? In the community update for the 2nd anniversary of Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian shared the information that a small number of players assigned a new class to the ranger Minsc, whom you can recruit in the third act of the game – and it was rather an unusual choice.
350 players made Minsc a cleric of the Death Domain, a subclass integrated into the game with Patch 8.
Those who already know Minsc understand that he is a very lovable, but (with a wisdom of 8 and an intelligence of 6) also a bit dim-witted hero, who places greater value on strength and dexterity. Assigning him the position of a wise cleric of the Death Domain sounds as strange as his appearance at first glance (but only at first, otherwise he rocks his new armor).

This not only brings players to laughter, as can be seen in the Reddit post by Former-Disaster-5902, but also caused confusion even at Larian: “Are you okay?”
But the community knows what might have been going through the minds of the 350 players, as there are indeed good reasons to make Minsc a cleric.
Here you see the animated short film for Patch 8 from Baldur’s Gate 3, which also included Minsc’s new subclass:
The community knows why Minsc can work as a cleric
Why is the community less surprised than the studio of the game? Minsc as a cleric, that invites a chuckle, as many would rather assign him a stereotypical barbarian personality. So does Puppetxmasterx, who explains on Reddit: “Honestly, I always make him a barbarian. That fits much better with how he behaves.”
Other players are rather surprised why so few chose this option. “Honestly, I’m surprised it’s not more players, even if it’s just for the Jack-of-all-trades achievement,” writes literallybyronic on Reddit. This achievement is only obtained when a character takes a level in every playable class from Baldur’s Gate 3.
To achieve this as quickly and easily as possible, one can send a character to Withers and level up again, which can also include a cleric of the Death Domain.
“That’s how 99% of people achieve this achievement,” writes Sunny_Hill_1 on Reddit, “by putting Minsc into every class and then leveling up again.”
How can Minsc also be useful as a cleric? Another player describes that he also made Minsc a cleric, but of the Life Domain, and for good reason. Mykeedee reveals on Reddit that he assigned Minsc this domain so that he could cast the spell “Heroes’ Feast” after every long rest without using the spell slots of a “real” cleric.
Heroes’ Feast is a level 6 spell that allows all allies within a certain radius of 18 meters to no longer be poisoned, sick, or frightened, have their maximum HP increased by 12, and gain advantage on Wisdom saving throws. This spell also makes a fight against a strong boss much easier.
In the community update for the 2nd anniversary of Baldur’s Gate 3, additional exciting data about player behavior was released. An almost as rare action as Minsc as a cleric is an ending that only 598 players have achieved and seen: Everyone loves Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3, but one ending of another character has only been seen by 598 players – seems like a rare achievement
