German WoW fans surely know the site Vanion, where you could always get the latest news and guides on World of Warcraft. But the operator of the site no longer wants to continue, as his passion has faded. What this is all about and what might still be possible, you will find out here.
What is Vanion? The WoW fan site Vanion.eu was founded in 2010 by Patrick “Vanion” Michalczak and grew with great passion and ambition to become the largest WoW fan site in Germany. Even after the unexpected death of Patrick Michalczak in 2018, operations continued and his business partner Andi has since taken over the site.
At Vanion, you always found current news and information about WoW, and the site was so popular that fans even demanded a memorial in the game for the deceased site founder. However, the Vanion site is now coming to an end.
“There’s just nothing positive to report anymore”
Why is the operation being discontinued? In a video on YouTube, the current Vanion operator Andreas explains that he will no longer run the Vanion site:
- The site will remain, but it will no longer be updated with news and other content
- The series Azeroth-Adventures will also not continue
As reasons, Andi mentions that simply the passion, which is so important for a fan site, has faded. “My passion for WoW is at an unprecedented low,” and there is “nothing positive to report anymore”.
This is not only due to the current scandal surrounding Blizzard, but rather that WoW and Blizzard, according to Andi, are no longer the WoW and Blizzard he loved back then. Instead, he feels that the developers are just working away without seeking contact with the community.
Consequently, the quality has steadily declined since Legion, and even the low point of Battle for Azeroth has currently been surpassed.
All of this has led to Andi simply not being able and willing to invest more energy and passion into the Vanion project.
What’s next? However, Andreas claims that he does not want to completely stop with WoW. His old job as a programmer no longer excites him, and he still enjoys being a content creator on YouTube.
However, he does not want to only report on WoW but is already looking forward to the new western MMORPGs – including New World, Ashes of Creation, Palia, the upcoming LoL MMORPG, and lastly, the action MMO Core Punk.
Core Punk, which is supposed to start its beta in August, by the way, strongly reminds him of WildStar, which he loved very much. What exactly Andreas will do in the future, you will find out in the coming days on his YouTube channel.
