The MMORPG expert TheLazyPeon has once again traveled to Aeternum to find out what the hype surrounding New World is all about.
Who is TheLazyPeon? The content creator is one of the largest international YouTubers specializing in the MMORPG genre. The creator, who lives in Thailand, has over 768,000 subscribers and more than 740 videos, and there is probably no current online role-playing game that the “lazy peon” hasn’t played.
However, TheLazyPeon is increasingly looking beyond the genre, which has already positively surprised him with some gems from the current gaming year – for example, Expedition 33: Clair Obscur is so good, it even excites story-averse players and those who dislike turn-based combat: “I want more games like this one”.

- The world of Aeternum is large, beautiful, and features some of the best sound effects in the genre.
- Crafting remains a major strength of New World.
- The classless system works, and it is now very easy to switch between gear and builds.
- The new catacomb challenge is fun, as are the jumping segments. The mix of PvE and PvP content is solid.
- The payment model is fair, there is no Pay2Win.
- The range of customization options, transmog, and housing options is large.
- The combat system can be a lot of fun in certain situations, as some weapons feel wonderfully heavy and skills feel incredibly satisfying.
However, the YouTuber criticizes the following areas:
- In New World, it feels very punishing when controlled by effects or thrown off balance.
- A high ping noticeably negatively affects the gaming experience. TheLazyPeon cannot effectively play some builds because of this.
- With the linear quest line that brings you to the max level, TheLazyPeon found little fun, as it quickly becomes boring to blindly follow the quest markers.
- The server capacities are low, which can quickly lead to long waiting times during hype phases. It also becomes difficult to join friends on certain servers.
- There are countless perks in the game, but the quality of the effects cannot keep up with the quantity. There is a lot of junk in there.
- At the same time, the talent trees offer little room for creativity. Build diversity is low.
- The organization of the storage areas is not enjoyable. The storage interface is poor, and there is too large a number of items, many of which are useless.
- The interface for the activities of the current season pass system is confusing and unintuitive.
- The combat system can also be a weakness, as it sometimes feels very clunky.
The overall conclusion of TheLazyPeon on New World: The MMORPG is currently in a very good state, even if it still has (familiar) weaknesses. In his opinion, the most fun is had with the game when played as a casual, for example, as a time-MMO alongside another title or when one generally has little time to play.
