Chance “Sodapoppin” Morris is a well-known streamer on Twitch. He achieved huge success in 2019 with the release of WoW Classic. Still, he feels that an employee at Blizzard must hate him terribly. Because he doesn’t get access to beta events and, according to his own account, experienced a bizarre situation around the release of the Paladin in Diablo 3.
What happened with Diablo 3? Sodapoppin reports that a PR company made him an offer for a sponsored video years ago. All he had to do was showcase the new Paladin class in Diablo 3:
I was 19 years old and they didn’t even pay that much. But still, I was excited, and all they wanted was a YouTube video of me playing and showcasing the Paladin class.
But shortly after, the company called him again and explained that the deal would not go through. They then offered him 50% of the money as an apology so that he would not publish the already completed video:
The management company said: “Hey, Blizzard doesn’t like you at all and we messed it up. We’re sorry. They don’t want you to make the video. But you already made the video and we promised to pay you. Here’s what we can offer you. We’ll give you half the money so you don’t publish it. And if you publish it, then you get nothing.
Sodapoppin is still excluded from betas
Was the video deal an exception? Apparently not. Sodapoppin reports that even though he placed 8th in the most viewed Twitch channels in 2016, he was not invited to the beta of Overwatch by Blizzard:
- He was supposed to have multiple contacts who promised him a spot in the second wave of the beta.
- But when the wave of invitations went out, the streamer was left out. He wasn’t considered in later waves either.
- Sodapoppin suspects that there is someone at Blizzard who has implemented a “personal vendetta” against him.
He also did not receive access to other betas, such as WoW Classic or BC Classic.
Has anything changed now? The streamer himself says he was a different person back then and deserved to be overlooked. He calls his former self “really, really bad”.
But today he is no longer like that. Still, he was again only invited to the beta of Wrath of the Lich King Classic. Exactly from that came his statements on stream about Blizzard.
Is Sodapoppin dependent on Blizzard? No. Although the streamer celebrated great success with the release of WoW Classic, he is a “Variety Streamer” and shows various games. In the last 180 days, he spent most of his time in LoL, Elden Ring, Lost Ark, and Risk of Rain 2. However, he still regularly shows WoW.
