Singing songs from KPop Demon Hunters is now prohibited at the Liliput Church of England Infant School. Some parents absolutely cannot understand the reason.
Why is singing prohibited? As the school informed BBC, the songs from the film do not align with the Christian ethos. Some members of the school would feel very uncomfortable with demons being mentioned in the songs.
For those affected, demons are beings that “connect them with spiritual forces that oppose God and good.” Therefore, a communication was sent to all parents of the students, who were asked not to sing “these songs at school out of respect for those who find the themes incompatible with their faith.”
The head of the teaching staff, Lloyd Allington, added that the songs do have positive messages. But there are indeed those affected who find these themes challenging.

What do the parents think about it? Parents who spoke to BBC find this decision ridiculous. One parent reports that their daughter is totally into K-Pop and that she and all her friends love it.
Moreover, the songs are mainly sung in activities that take place after school. The parent, who identifies as an atheist, adds:
It’s just a harmless, nice little thing they can do to boost their confidence. It feels a bit like an imposition and probably also a bit unfair and silly.
At the same time, he defends the school and praises it in general. However, he feels that they may have been pressured to make this change. Other parents agree with him and inform the school that their children have learned more about teamwork, courage, and kindness through the songs. The movie is successful for a reason.
How does the school respond? After all the feedback from the parents, Allington states that the teachers would respect what the children do at home. However, they should respect that there are multiple faiths in the school. The ban remains in place.
