Kickstarter and MMORPGs are a delicate mix. Many MMOs that were supposed to be funded through crowdfunding failed. However, there are exceptions, including Dual Universe and Chronicles of Elyria.
In addition to Kickstarter, there are other crowdfunding platforms. These include Indiegogo and Fig. The latter recently published a list of the video games that were the highest funded in 2016. Among them are three MMOs: AdventureQuest 3D, Dual Universe, and Chronicles of Elyria. Both Dual Universe and Chronicles of Elyria are online games that many MMO fans have on their radar, and a lot of hope for the entire genre is placed on them.
Chronicles of Elyria and Dual Universe appeal to players
Chronicles of Elyria was successfully funded on Kickstarter with $1,361,435. The MMORPG offers players not just a massive world where they can found cities and entire kingdoms, but also an aging system. Your hero ages over time and eventually dies, so you must look for a successor in time. To do this, you start a family and then pass on some of your knowledge to your son or daughter.
We will surely hear more from Chronicles of Elyria this year.

Dual Universe, on the other hand, appeals to fans of science fiction scenarios and was funded with $565,983 on Kickstarter. The game places you in a vast galaxy where you seamlessly fly from planets into space, building your own spaceships, space stations, bases, and cities.
The economy is supposed to be player-driven. Someone who develops particularly interesting spaceship designs could become rich by supplying players with such ships. Space battles for territories will also play a role. Dual Universe is expected to enter alpha this year.

AdventureQuest 3D, which is a spin-off of the 2D role-playing series, received $368,503 through crowdfunding. As you can see, interest in MMORPGs is still present. The games just need to deliver and offer interesting, new, and exciting concepts that appeal to players.
