A charity event by W Korea should raise awareness about breast cancer as a disease. However, many of the guests, including numerous K-Pop stars, did not behave as one would have hoped.
What kind of event was it? W Korea is a fashion magazine that recently organized a fundraising gala for breast cancer patients. With this charity event, they also aimed to highlight the importance of early breast cancer detection. The event took place on October 15, 2025, and is now making headlines.
In many TikTok videos currently circulating, partying K-Pop stars can be seen. The atmosphere is lively, many guests dance to the music, and there are many glasses visible, presumably filled with alcoholic beverages. For many affected individuals and viewers, the images of the evening are distressing.
K-Pop stars behave inappropriately
What is the problem? For many viewers, the event seems more like a celebrity party rather than an event aimed at raising awareness of a serious illness.
Among the guests are many well-known K-Pop stars, some of whom have clearly drunk too much. Among the inebriated guests are Giselle and Karina from the K-Pop group aespa. Videos show both struggling to stand on their own feet and keep their eyes open.
Moreover, the videos do not show any pink outfits or accessories that are usually worn at such events to signal that patients are not alone. Speeches and presentations are rarely seen in the videos.
The “highlight” of the event was a performance by rapper Jay Park. He performed the song Mommae, which could not be more inappropriate for an event focused on breast cancer: At one point, he sings that he would like to be introduced to the “twin sisters hanging from your breast.”
Were there exceptions? There were reportedly a few exceptions, as seen on TikTok: Bang Chan and Seungmin, who are part of the K-Pop group Stray Kids, are seen in pictures with water as their drink and are said to have left the event early. MeinMMO editor Jasmin is especially relieved, as she is a big fan of the band.
Actor Byeon Woo Seok is also the only one in the pictures who has a pink flower as an accessory on his suit. The color is associated with breast cancer awareness.
How is one reacting to the event? TikToker yoojiuen is a cancer patient herself and does not understand why the event is made into a party. She received her last chemotherapy treatment two days ago and knows how terrible it feels to be affected.
For her, her illness is not a dress code that can be dressed up with glamour. The event should focus on highlighting the illness and showing that patients are not alone. yoojiuen does not understand why people are celebrating so exuberantly without providing space for the disease.
Meanwhile, the event organizers also responded on Instagram. They apologized for causing discomfort and pain to patients and their families through the event. They stated they take the criticism seriously and will reevaluate the event.
Rapper Jay Park also apologized on X to those affected who felt attacked by his song. He wishes them good health and strength.
Korea and the K-Pop culture are currently in the spotlight of the world thanks to a new Netflix film. The film KPop Demon Hunters is so successful that it has broken several records. However, there is actually a whole song missing in the film: KPop Demon Hunters impresses fans on Netflix with strong songs, but a particularly emotional song is missing
