Today (July 23) our Leya will take her first steps into Magic: The Gathering. Starting at 7:00 PM, she will gather with three other players around the table and then the Commander mode will be played.

So complex is Magic: Thanks to a diligent team of researchers, we now know that Magic: The Gathering is probably the most complex game in the world. The card game itself is not particularly complicated. The complexity lies in the sheer number of different cards and possible moves.

Magic has existed for 26 years and the game has more than 20,000 unique cards. There are creatures, artifacts, spells, lands (Mana), planeswalkers, and of course plenty of special cases.

The hurdle of starting with such an old and complex game is quite high. That’s why I, Leya, stayed away from it for a long time.

This is why I now play Magic: Every Tuesday, the Commander mode is played on our streaming channel MAX (Monsters and Explosions) during “Magic Nights”. However, it is not the classic 1vs1. The mode allows groups to play together. The deck consists of 100 cards and each card can appear only once in it.

The people responsible for the streaming program asked me months ago if I would like to participate as a beginner. So, I finally gathered my courage and took a closer look at Magic.

The basic rules were learned quite quickly and in the last weeks I assembled my own deck to be a guest in “Magic Nights” today.

Here the stream begins at 7 PM

This is what happens in the stream: Together with three players, I will gather at the Magic table. Joining me will be Marco from the YouTube channel Nerdkultur, Peter from BB-Spiele, a shop for trading cards and board games, and Jochen, who works behind the scenes at Monsters and Explosions.

We will fight each other with our cards until only one player is left.

This is the Commander I play: The special thing about the Commander mode is the titular Commander. This legendary creature sets the strategy of the deck. Today, I am playing “The First Remasuri”. Remasuri have the ability to enhance each other.
