The Scale Test of Sea of Thieves has started and is looking for adventurous pirates. Here’s how to participate in Sea of Thieves without prior beta registration. You can now join the stress test as well.
Ahoy, interested pirates. This weekend you can play Sea of Thieves for free. The stress test for the pirate adventure in multiplayer mode started on the morning of February 16.
However, you should expect that issues may arise while playing. After all, the servers are being stressed and problems are being simulated during the stress test.
Sea of Thieves: Participate in the Stress Test without Beta Registration
If you want to participate in the current stress test, you only need to register in the Xbox Insider Hub. This software is available for Microsoft computers and Xbox consoles.
Once you have downloaded the software on the corresponding platform, you can register for the stress test there and then download the game. Additionally, pre-order customers have access to the stress test.
However, during this beta phase, not all content available at the game’s launch on March 20 will be accessible to you. Instead, there are similar contents that were already available during the last closed beta.
You can find the official installation instructions for Sea of Thieves here.
This stress test is mainly about collecting important server data and understanding how the servers behave in problematic situations. You can find a more detailed overview of the current Sea of Thieves stress test here.
Issues with the installation? Here’s an addition from our reader Nookiezilla:
Simply pull the Xbox Insider app from the Windows Store, then search for Sea of Thieves and that’s it. It may take some time after you register for the beta before the registration is completed and the download can begin.
This is how I went through it this afternoon, and I had never had access to an alpha/beta.
I think Windows 10 is required.
The mentioned delay in registration should now be resolved. There was a problem that caused the registration through the Insider Hub to take too long.
What do I actually do in Sea of Thieves?
In Sea of Thieves, a initially small playground opens up to you. Whether you play alone or with one or more friends is up to you. However, playing in a group is usually more fun.
Sail across the vast sea in search of hidden treasures. The quests you receive for free at the Gold Hoarder tent on the starting island provide hints for their locations. Follow the treasure map to mysterious islands, fight the undead inhabitants, and then dig at the right spot to find a chest full of gold.
By solving puzzles and finding treasure chests, you earn gold that you can exchange in various shops for clothing, weapons, and other items such as musical instruments.
We explain how to start your first adventure in our beginner’s guide.
