The latest movie of Superman just hit theaters, and work is already underway on the sequel. Director James Gunn has shared an initial image that immediately leads fans to a certain villain.
On July 10, 2025, the new Superman movie will hit theaters, directed by James Gunn and featuring a new actor in the title role. David Corenswet follows fan-favorite Henry Cavill. The film is part of the new DC universe and is therefore very important for the company to build a similarly strong franchise in the future, as Marvel has done.
James Gunn, who has taken charge of the DCU, will also direct the next Superman film. It is titled Man of Tomorrow and is expected to arrive in theaters on July 9, 2027.
So far, it was known that Superman and Lex Luthor will team up in this new story. A recent post on Instagram may have revealed who the strong enemy they will fight against is.

It is an anatomical representation, with a particular emphasis on the person’s brain. Many users in the comments believe they see a clear hint about who the next big antagonist will be.
Since a brain is visible, many deduce that it must be Brainiac. After all, “brain” in English means “Brain,” so the connection to Brainiac isn’t far off. User leand0_theaternerd writes on behalf of many others: “Brainiac is definitely the villain.”
Who is Brainiac? The villain is one of the most dangerous antagonists from the DC comic universe and is on par with others like Lex Luthor or Darkseid. His real name is Vril Dox. He appears in numerous stories in various forms.
Sometimes he is an alien, sometimes he has no body, and sometimes he is the consciousness of a computer. He possesses the dangerous ability to shrink entire cities. He then collects them and keeps them in bottles. He destroys the associated planets. In this way, he travels through space with his spaceship and terrorizes various worlds, including Kandor, the capital of Superman’s home planet Krypton.
If it turns out to be true that Brainiac will be the main antagonist of Man of Tomorrow, Superman and Lex Luthor will have to prepare themselves. The unusual combination could create an exciting mix and will even require such a powerful adversary. Many others would hardly stand a chance against the Superman-Luthor team.
