In Jagged Alliance 3 you can acquire free mercenaries. One of them is Larry. We show you how to find Larry and recruit him as a Merc.
Who is Larry? If you have played Jagged Alliance 2, then Larry might look familiar to you. This guy has a penchant for explosions, drugs, and is one of the free mercenaries in Jagged Alliance 3. If you want to unlock him, you’ll need a bit of luck.

Unlock Larry with loot boxes
What you need to do: Before you go directly to Larry, it’s advisable to take a detour to the Fleatown Flew Market. There you will meet Lalee Leewaylender, who is interested in your diamonds. Use your diamonds to buy loot boxes. If you don’t have diamonds, you can get them in the neighboring district at the church, with the diamond-trading priest of your choice.
Here you need a bit of luck, as you need a dose of Metaviron as loot. Some get it faster, while others need more of the loot boxes.
Then you travel to Camp Savane in Sector F7. Here you must eliminate all enemies first. Watch out for the mines! About in the middle of the map, you will finally find Larry.
If you talk to him, you will quickly notice his current health condition if you have a capable doctor with you: The man suffers from amnesia. He asks you for Metaviron, which you eventually give him.
Congratulations! You have now unlocked Larry and did not incur any costs.
What is Larry good for? He can handle explosive items very well and has good knowledge of medicine. You can easily improve his poor marksmanship stats by making Larry sober. Just go to the sanatorium in the east of Fleatown. You will probably unlock that area later in the game.
Once at the sanatorium, you can have Larry’s addiction treated. You do this through the “Operations Menu” in the tactics map, where you also repair items or care for your wounds. Successfully completing the action will allow Larry to speak more clearly and be more useful to you.
