MeinMMO producer Anna Alberg has spent countless hours with Dune: Awakening and shared her assessment of the new survival MMO from Funcom in a new video.
In the MeinMMO editorial team, there are a whole bunch of survival enthusiasts who have been playing Dune: Awakening up and down since its release on June 10, 2025. Our video producer Anna Alberg likely has the most hours logged.
In her new video on the MeinMMO YouTube channel, she now reveals what she really likes about the new survival MMO from Funcom and which aspects, in her opinion, the developers should still improve. You can also watch the nearly 8 minutes below:
“The Surprise of the Year”
What are the first reactions? There is already an exciting exchange happening under the video on YouTube. Here is a selection of comments:
- swedstar writes: “I think Dune has its difficulties as well, but a game that gives me 150 hours without feeling like work definitely does something right. I can play something else after 200 hours. So Dune has been the surprise of the year for me; I didn’t think I would spend so much time on it.”
- macash75 is also having fun: “My absolute favorite game for 235 hours, but I haven’t been in the Deep Desert yet and am just starting with Duraluminium. I’ve initially completed all the quests and jobs available in the game. I’m now building a new base and will see what comes next; it’s just the base game, there’s still a lot to come in the future.”
- flashnekrobilly5753 sees it a bit differently: “I’ve played it for 200 hours now, farming a lot with my people to get better equipment, I’ve completed the quests and now I’m getting bored. Just mindless farming of resources in the endgame is too boring for me. PVP isn’t my thing. So I’m taking a break.”
- frankhuschenhofer626 adds: “I agree with your review! I’m at 434 hours and yes, it has become mega boring. In the Deep Desert, you really have to be paranoid not to get shot immediately.”

What do I need to know about Dune: Awakening? The new survival MMO from Funcom was released on June 10, 2025, for PC and takes you to the desert planet Arrakis. However, you won’t find the familiar storyline from the books or movies but an alternative timeline in which Paul Atreides was never born.
Hunger, thirst, sun, aggressive enemies – from the very first minute, the fight for survival is the focus of Dune: Awakening. As you build better tools, gear, bases, vehicles, and weapons, you make your daily life easier, allowing you to focus more on exploring the game world, mastering dungeons, or experiencing the story.
In large parts of the game world, you can meet up to 39 other players. Exceptions are the two faction capitals and the Deep Desert, a huge endgame area where PVP is active nearly everywhere and changes drastically every week due to a storm.
