The huge 4X strategy game Crusader Kings 3 is getting its first DLC today, on February 8, 2022. With Royal Court, new game mechanics are introduced that can entertain you even when you’re not playing – for instance, on Twitch.
What kind of game is this? Crusader Kings 3 is a strategy game from Paradox. The studio is known for its massive, sometimes overwhelming games with dozens of mechanics that all interlock.
You play various rulers in Europe, Asia, and Africa around the Mediterranean during the Crusades from the 9th to the 15th century. Through intrigues, wars, and diplomacy, you try to build your empire and write history as you see fit.
Crusader Kings 3 is considered extremely complex with mechanics such as religion, court intrigues, and succession, which can be quite opaque and can ruin your entire game save with a wrong decision.

Why is Crusader Kings 3 interesting now? Today, on February 8, 2022, the first major DLC for Crusader Kings 3 is released. Royal Court focuses entirely on cultures and even adds a sort of role-playing component to the game. The DLC brings, for example:
- Languages you can learn and even unlearn
- A throne room with exhibited relics and the new “Splendor” mechanic
- Judiciary in your own throne room
- Same-sex marriages
- Cultural mixing as a new feature along with cultural traditions for each people
To outsiders or beginners, the new content may sound even more confusing. But for at least one platform, all of this is ideal: for Twitch.
New possibilities and completely different ways to play with Royal Court
That’s why Royal Court is interesting for Twitch: Crusader Kings 3 can also be played in multiplayer rounds. Here, several players play with or against each other.
The new features all have great conflict potential. If you do not speak the same language as other characters, it gives a natural penalty on their opinion of you, and cultures have the potential to stir up a conflict.
