Team Xbox has detailed its handheld: the ROG Xbox Ally. The price of the two variants is steep. Nevertheless, the new platform is already sold out worldwide.
What do I need to know about the ROG Xbox Ally? Microsoft’s new handheld is expected to be available from October 16, 2025, and is currently offered in 2 variants:
- ROG Xbox Ally X with 24 GB RAM and 1 TB storage, for about 900 euros
- ROG Xbox Ally with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB storage, for about 600 euros
However, the more expensive X variant does not only rely on more SSD storage and additional RAM, it also features a more powerful processor, additional ports, and a higher battery capacity.
Both variants share display parameters, Wi-Fi 6E (2 x 2) + Bluetooth 5.4, the dimensions (the X version is a few grams heavier), and the accessories (65 W charger and stand). You can find the exact details of the two devices on xbox.com.
With the ROG Xbox Ally, Microsoft is taking on the Steam Deck; here is the trailer for the OLED version:
More expensive than a console, still sold out
How is the device being received? Apparently very well. On the official X channel, Microsoft officials explain that the ROG Xbox Ally X is already sold out in all Xbox stores due to the high pre-order requests. You may still find it at local retailers.
However, the high price is deterring some gaming enthusiasts. Industry insider Jason Schreier, who is well-connected, writes:
I do not know if the new ROG Xbox Ally is worth 600 or 1,000 US dollars, but I know that I have used the Steam Deck OLED (550/650 US dollars) almost daily for the last two years and it runs almost everything I want to play perfectly.

Currently, you can get the Steam Deck in the LCD version and 256 GB for as low as 335.20 euros instead of 419 euros. A PlayStation 5 can be had for 500 euros in your living room. An Xbox Series X for just under 600 euros.
Will Microsoft’s new ROG Xbox Ally eventually become the most popular current handheld? Currently, there is a clear king: We finally know how often the Steam Deck has been sold – Valve’s handheld has left Asus ROG Ally and the rest of the competition far behind
