Ubisoft has released a new game: Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles (PC). The game relies on an innovative technology, blockchain. But already in the first weekend, when real gameplay was supposed to take place, Ubisoft was faced with a disaster. Technical problems of unprecedented scale hit hard.
What was the problem? Starting Friday afternoon, players in Discord for the PvP-oriented game with purchasable miniatures reported a bug that was ruining the game and their ranking:
- They join a game
- They receive a message that they cannot connect to the game
- The game is considered lost and they lose ranking points
The strange thing was that all players who encountered the bug were supposed to compete against the player “Paulstar111”. Paulstar111 won every match assigned to him without competing.
Ubisoft can’t ban super-hacker because they can’t get to the office
This is how Ubisoft reacted: Players demanded the banning of Paulstar111. For sure, this was a foul, albeit brilliant hacker who somehow managed to secure unfair advantages in the game.
But Ubisoft disappointed the players: They stated they had no office access over the weekend. Therefore, they could not ban Paulstar111. They had to wait until Monday.
However, on Saturday, a savior appeared. The Game Director said they had managed to ban Paulstar111 and would further investigate the situation on Monday.
So everything is well in the kingdom of NFTs, right?
So was the problem solved? No, because as soon as Paulstar111 was banned, the player Schiller11 took his place. Now players were sent against this unbeatable master hacker to their doom and immediately lost all games.
Readers of our article know what is meant by “matchmaking problems”:
Super-hackers themselves didn’t know what was happening
How did it end? On Monday, Ubisoft found out that Paulstar111 and Schiller11 were not supervillains sabotaging Ubisoft’s beautiful new game, but they themselves did not understand why they were suddenly getting so many victories. Ubisoft lifted the bans and asked the other players not to be so hateful towards the two players. They couldn’t do anything about the dissatisfaction of the other players.
The Ubisoft team reminds the players that they have reopened matchmaking, but the bug may reoccur. They are working on a permanent solution.
Additionally, they promise compensation over X.
Meanwhile, the most expensive champion in the game is no longer, as at release, “Swift Zealot” costing €59,000, but “Savage Trooper” which costs over €300,000.
But apparently no one bought these extremely expensive heroes. They are still listed at 5/5 on Ubisoft’s marketplace.
The most expensive hero sold in Champions Tactics appears to be Unstable Beast for €550 – at least it seems to have been crafted, according to the statistics in the game’s marketplace. Well, will the buyer be happy with their bargain after the weekend? We have already introduced the game Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles upon its release on MeinMMO: Ubisoft launches its first blockchain game with NFTs that are as expensive as a fancy BMW
