Out of the blue, Capcom and GungHo have released a new card game called Teppen for iOS and Android. In this game, characters from well-known franchises like Street Fighter, Monster Hunter, or Devil May Cry compete against each other.
What is Teppen? It is one of the popular online card games, where two players compete against each other online. However, Teppen features characters that you might know from Capcom franchises. These include Ryu from Street Fighter, Dante from Devil May Cry, Resident Evil’s Albert Wesker, or Mega-Man.
Each character has its own strengths and weaknesses and must be played strategically in card matches.
Real-time Reactions
What makes this game special? Teppen offers several unique features. In addition to the heroes from games that you can lead into battle, the events take place in real-time.
- When an opponent plays a card, you must respond immediately and lay down the corresponding counter card. This makes Teppen feel more like a “real” card game.
- The dynamics introduced by the real-time battles make the matches more action-packed and faster. However, you must always act strategically, as each hero has special moves that you should time well.
- The events are also staged dramatically. You see animations of the individual characters alongside the playing field, as well as plenty of special effects and explosions. It feels like an action game where things get really intense. It’s a bit like “Hearthstone by Michael Bay.”
What else does the game offer? You experience a story through a solo mode where you face off against an AI. In this solo mode, you learn more about the backstories of the heroes.
In the story mode, you gradually unlock heroes that you can use in multiplayer battles.
Additionally, you compete in ranked battles against other players to climb the leaderboard, and you try to master a Grand Prix in which you complete match after match.
Teppen comes as Free2Play for iOS and Android
When can you play? Teppen is already available. You can simply download the free-to-play mobile game via Google Play or the Apple App Store.
How is the game received? The reviews have been quite good so far. One must consider that Teppen has only recently become available. Nevertheless, the card game is quite well-received.
Players find that it brings a bit of fresh air to the genre but still takes cues from Blizzard’s Hearthstone. It is not a “cheap knockoff” of earlier card games but is genuinely fun and has a lot of potential due to the wide range of heroes.
If you have always wanted to see Capcom heroes compete against each other in a card game, you can check out Teppen on your smartphone.
