Cheaters are a major problem in MMORPGs. In Tarisland, they are particularly frustrating because many of the endgame activities are linked to leaderboards where cheaters can cut in line. The developers of the MMORPG have now responded, yet the community is still unhappy.
What’s up with the cheaters in Tarisland? For weeks, there have been complaints from players in the community about cheaters who gain unfair advantages through third-party software. This is especially problematic because there are many leaderboards in Tarisland that are also linked to rewards for the players.
Whether in the PvP arena, where players who create an advantage with cheats receive higher rewards for achieving a better placement, or in PvE, where they can also earn real-money currency in various developer competitions.

Developers tackle the cheaters
How did the developers respond to the cheaters? The developers initially announced investigations (via Discord). On August 27, a wave of bans followed that removed the cheaters reported and proven by the community from the game. However, apart from one prominent cheater, all others were only banned for 3 days.
Although the developers announced that players would lose access to their account permanently after another offense, this punishment caused dissatisfaction among the player base.
What bothers the players? The players consider the punishment far too lenient, as the cheaters take away their chance for placements in the events. A ban for three days is far too little. Moreover, the developers’ statement does not mention whether the cheaters will be excluded from the leaderboards.
User @varietymmos writes on Discord: “This is the worst way to deal with it. I won’t let this slide. Cheaters deserve permanent bans. This 3-day BS is unacceptable.”
Also, @kharlan on Discord thinks: “it is unfair to other players and it is UNACCEPTABLE!!”
@swampporo also expresses disappointment on Discord: “So they didn’t impose any permanent bans on cheaters and didn’t even ban the obvious ones; it’s impossible for them to treat this issue so poorly.”
Developers release a statement
What do the developers say about the community’s mood? The developers of the MMORPG Tarisland have released a statement addressing the criticism about the bans.
We have taken your feedback into account. This penalty is based on players’ in-game behavior, but does not mean that we will tolerate such cheating activities. We hope that the 3-day ban serves as a warning to players and encourages them not to make similar mistakes again.
We will enhance monitoring of activities in the game and pay more attention to players’ reports. If someone is later caught using cheats, we will impose a permanent ban immediately. […]

It remains to be seen whether the developers will be able to get a handle on the situation and manage to keep their MMORPG free of cheaters. This is something all players would probably wish for, especially since the game places a lot of value on the mentioned leaderboards.
For casual players who are not competing for leaderboard positions, the MMORPG will probably continue in the fall.
