If a few dozen zombies are not enough for you, then you should check this out. The Black Masses sets the bar high for real zombie hordes.
What is The Black Masses? In The Black Masses, you land alone or in co-op on an island of approximately 16 km² and face a lot of problems in the form of possessed ones. They behave like clichéd zombies, shambling and running towards the player upon approach. In addition to various weapons, such as swords and axes, there are also various types of enemies. Not only weak zombies roam around, but also possessed knights and even demons with particularly nasty attacks.
Violence and dismemberment are very evident: What immediately stands out is the high degree of brutality, as the possessed not only lose liters of blood but can also be specifically dismembered. Arms and legs often fly across the screen, which is sure to be a pleasure for all splatter fans.
The high masses of enemies, which is unique for first-person games, is based on the same engine that was also used for the “Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator,” where players could recreate massive battles. Therefore, it is not an exaggeration to see 1000 or more zombies on the screen simultaneously.
More than just masses and brutality? Whether The Black Masses can convince in other areas remains to be seen. So far, the demo material from the pre-alpha looks impressive mainly due to the large number of simultaneously present enemies. Otherwise, the gameplay still seems immature, the enemies boring, and the rest of the gameplay rather “meh.” But maybe The Black Masses still has other aspects that can excite later…
When will The Black Masses be released? Currently, the title is listed on Steam with a release date of “Spring 2019” – that is, within the next 4-6 months.
Are you looking forward to slicing through true hordes of enemies? Or does it all look far too monotonous?
