In the new episode of the anime Dandadan, the characters perform an exorcism. They are supported by a rock band that is heavily inspired by a real band. Now, lawyers are checking for plagiarism.
What kind of rock band is this? In the current episode of Dandadan, Okarun, Momo, and their grandmother perform an exorcism. They want to free Jiji from an evil spirit named Evil Eye, one of the strongest characters of the anime. They are assisted by a rock band called Brave Force (in the anime Hayasii). They play music so passionately that they can interact with spirits.
If you missed the performance in the anime, you can watch the full song in the following YouTube video:
Both the appearance of the band and the song played, as well as the names of the individual members, are inspired by the Japanese rock band X Japan. The band was founded in 1982 and still exists today.
Yoshiki is the drummer in real life and has now been made aware on X that there is an anime version of him.
Lawyer reviews possible lawsuit against the creators of Dandadan
How did the drummer react to his anime version? At first, Yoshiki appeared shocked. He posted on X that he knew nothing about it and whether it was okay to do something like that. For all other anime appearances of the band, they had been contacted in advance, but not for Dandadan (see X).
About 7 hours later, he added on X that he wanted to watch the anime from now on. He seemed to find the performance funny after all and laughed. Meanwhile, however, lawyers have contacted him to check for a possible copyright infringement.
When I found out about it, I found it kind of funny and had to laugh, but then I was contacted by lawyers. They said there might be a possibility of copyright infringement, so I wonder what will happen now. People, in such matters, it is probably best to first contact the responsible parties.

The rights to the song are held by Sony Music Publishing. A part of the production of Dandadan is Aniplex. Sony Music Publishing is a shareholder of Aniplex, which is why some fans on MyAnimeList assume that the matter will be settled internally since otherwise, Sony would basically have to sue itself.
