Star Citizen has a new feature and has positively surprised part of the community. It will be possible to communicate in sign language, at least in a rudimentary way. Fans see great potential in it.
In the latest episode of “Around the Verse” titled “The Sound of Fury,” the developers of Star Citizen discussed new content that is set to be added to the game. This includes emotes that will give characters the ability to use sign language.
The corresponding message in the embedded video starts around minute 13:33.
So far, only a few signs are available, such as for “Sit down” or “Thank you (sarcastically).” It is not yet clear if more gestures are planned. However, facial expressions are also planned.
Star Citizen Community Advocates for Sign Language
Players find the feature useful: In a Reddit post about the video and the new sign language feature, fans are actively discussing the topic. It is very well received and most people see the benefit in it.
They find it practical that the emotes can be used not just for cosmetic, but for practical purposes. This enables mute and deaf players to communicate faster and also share information in fast-paced situations without having to type.
According to a hearing-impaired developer on the Star Citizen team, the gestures are even accurate, and he can recognize them all. Currently, only American Sign Language is available. It is unclear whether German Sign Language will also be included.
Fans see new possibilities: The community sees in the signs not only usefulness but also two great opportunities. Through subtitles and corresponding meanings, players can also learn simple sign language for real life.
Additionally, as user Maestr027 notes on Reddit, this opens up chances for new friendships. With more communication, doors for new friends are opened.
