In Overwatch XP loot boxes cost money. So you can calculate how much gameplay is actually “worth”.
Loot boxes – The exchange rate between time, XP and money
Since in Overwatch you can not only buy loot boxes for real money, but also earn them through level-ups, some interesting calculations can be made to determine the “value” of gameplay time. The colleagues at pcgamesn have gathered quite a bit of statistics, whose highlights we want to present to you.
Since two loot boxes cost exactly 2€, one can set the “value” of a single level-up at about 1€. On average, one needs 20,085 XP for a level-up. Assuming that a player wins half of their games, they earn about 3000 XP every 10 minutes (3600 XP in a group). This results in a solo player needing about 66 minutes for a level (58 minutes in a group), and then you can calculate the value of gameplay time! Per hour of gameplay, one “earns” about 91 cents – in a group, this increases to 1.03€.
In another article, we have already revealed to you, how experience points in Overwatch are calculated exactly.
With 888 loot boxes you have everything
But the calculations don’t stop there. Furthermore, the question was raised how long it would take to own absolutely every item in Overwatch – and especially, how expensive that would be. For this calculation, it was taken into account that after a while, you receive more and more duplicate items, but on the other hand you can specifically buy items you still need.
The results are as follows:
- 888€, if you buy the “most expensive” loot boxes (2 boxes for 2€)
- 720€, if you buy the “cheapest” loot boxes (50 boxes for 40€, 12 are “excess”)
Alternatively, this can of course also be played out. Accordingly, you would need:
- 977 hours if you are a solo player
- 858 hours if you play in a group
You can view the exact calculations of the results in our sources – but if you don’t deal much with mathematics, it’s better to steer clear of it.
