The highlights of the week:
- On April 8, Phase 8 of the Season of Discoveries for WoW Classic started. Since April 10, you can raid the new “Crimson Enclave,” which you can find in the Tyrs Hand area of the Eastern Plaguelands – this was one of the most popular elite farming regions for high-level characters in Vanilla WoW. Additionally, there are new Legendaries for Warriors, Hunters, and Paladins. All details can be found at worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com.
- Phase 8 is not the end; the Season of Discoveries for WoW Classic will continue (via YouTube). Blizzard has not yet revealed the exact details.
- Part of Patch 11.1.5 for World of Warcraft will be released on April 22, 2025. The rest? On two other dates. The content is expected to stretch until July.
- With Patch 11.1.5 for World of Warcraft, the so-called “Puzzling Cartel Chips” will arrive in Azeroth. Those in possession of these tokens can choose their epic loot from the current raid.
- The new version of Disturbing Visions allows you to activate more masks and rewards you with a new shadow worm mount.

What else has happened? As part of “ESO Direct 2025”, the team behind Elder Scrolls Online introduced the first season of the MMORPG. The Seasons of the Worm Cult will take you to a tropical island in June and continue the Molag-Bal campaign from 2014. The season is set to be expanded with new content from July to December. Access will be through the new content pass. All players can look forward to the new subclasses.

What happened with the big MMORPGs:
- WoW: The War Within and the anniversary servers of WoW Classic received a wave of hotfixes on April 8. You can find the patch notes at worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com.
- Interested players can now sign up for the beta of WoW: Mists of Pandaria Classic via worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com.
- On April 5, 2025, the death of William ‘Bill’ Petras was announced. A close friend and long-time colleague of the deceased made the announcement. Petras was the art director of World of Warcraft and Overwatch at Blizzard.
- A guild from World of Warcraft recently celebrated its 20th anniversary. The special thing about this community is that it continues to host raid nights week after week to tackle the current boss challenges.
- Famous streamer and YouTuber Xaryu is currently going through perhaps the hardest grind World of Warcraft has offered since its launch. For one day, he has set a particularly challenging interim goal.
- On April 8, the developers of Lost Ark released a comprehensive blog post on playlostark.com addressing current feedback from the community. It covers nerfs, endgame, class balance, the jewel system, localization, the so-called bussing, and more.
- On April 10, a new patch for Black Desert was released, featuring class changes, adjustments for the fishing encyclopedia, and more – the patch notes can be found at playblackdesert.com. In addition, events related to fishing and Easter have started.
- On April 15, the Easter event “Rabbit’s Revenge” will start in New World. More info can be found at newworld.com.
- From April 9 to 24, the Wonderful Egg Hunt is taking place in Final Fantasy XIV. You can reach the German event page via finalfantasyxiv.com. Additionally, a “See you in Eorzea” campaign has started, running until May 9, 2025. If you successfully lure a friend back to Eorzea, you can earn golden Chocobo feathers (via finalfantasyxiv.com).
What happened with the smaller MMORPGs:
- Robin Henkys, the former game director of Albion Online, is stepping down after 11 years. The entire creative direction will be handed over to three long-standing members of the lead design team – Moritz Bokelmann, Michael Schwahn, and Jon Fertigen. - The developers of Lord of the Rings Online announced in March 2025 that they would like to provide additional 64-bit servers due to high demand. On April 9, 2025, it was finally time: With Grond, another world of LotRO has gone live for Europe.
- In a livestream lasting over 90 minutes, the developers of Fractured Online talked about the acquisition and the new studio, as well as the future of the MMORPG (via YouTube).
- The update “Lure of Darkness” has been released for EverQuest II. You can expect a dungeon with 40 bosses, a fresh raid challenge, 37 quests, and more. You can find the details at everquest2.com.
- MeinMMO already reported on this: Lineage 2 will receive a new class, the Werewolf, on April 15, 2025. This class strikes with claws in battle and howls at the moon. What happened with MMORPGs in development:
- After the strongly criticized introduction of PvP servers, players of Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen now face a consolidation of PvE worlds. But there is also good news.
- Next week, the MMORPG Erenshor will launch on Steam. The special thing about this online role-playing game is: It is an MMORPG for a single player. Only the player character is a real person, all other avatars in the world are system-controlled NPCs pretending to be real players.
- When it comes to the most exciting and ambitious MMORPGs of 2025, Chrono Odyssey can’t be missing. After a long silence, this week finally brought news from the developers.
