With Battle for Azeroth, there are significant changes to the “Mythic+” dungeons in WoW. Players will no longer be able to change their gear – we will reveal why this is so.
With Battle for Azeroth, Blizzard aims to change many of the game mechanics of World of Warcraft. The “Mythic+” dungeons are also being adjusted. One change is likely to be particularly dramatic and will especially displease professional players. In the future, it will no longer be possible to change gear during a dungeon.
Why is Blizzard doing this? The Game Director Ion Hazzikostas revealed during the livestream that this change is intentional and well thought out. Players should prepare at the beginning of the dungeon for what to expect. This way, they have to make a decision instead of selecting the optimal set after every fight – because if there is always a perfect answer, then there is nothing to decide.
Multiple sets – standard for professionals. Especially professionals often had multiple sets for the same specialization, which they adjusted after each fight. Were there particularly many enemies in the next pull? Then the AoE set was equipped. Is there a boss fight with an enemy starting at 30% HP? Then they take the execute set. Those who wanted to perform optimally needed two, three, or even four sets. Blizzard now wants to avoid this.
Difficulty will be adjusted. Those now concerned that dungeons at a high “Mythic+” level will become impossible, can be reassured by Blizzard. The dungeons will be adjusted to this changed rule, so there should ultimately be no difference.
Currently, however, there is a way in the beta to bypass this hurdle – those who leave the instance can adjust their gear outside the dungeon and then return. However, this is likely to cost more time than it saves in most cases.
