On September 17, Helldivers 2 released the major patch 01.001.100. The update brought a lot of buffs. Numerous weapons and equipment were improved, while some enemies were weakened. We present the patch notes and the grenade that now allows you to easily take out even the most annoying enemies.
Which grenade is it? The Thermite grenade received a significant buff with patch 01.001.100. Until the recent update, the grenade was considered rather useless and was only used as a sparkler on New Year’s Eve. The best loadouts for Helldivers 2 mostly relied on the stun grenade.
After the patch, the grenade can easily take out annoying armored enemies like Stürmer and Hulks. Even an Acid Titan is said to be brought down by the grenade, as a player shows on Reddit.
The Thermite grenade was introduced in April 2024 with the War Bond “Democratic Detonations”.
What was changed about the grenade? The Thermite grenade received a very large damage boost accompanied by two smaller buffs and a nerf that is supposed to minimally compensate for the damage boost:
- Explosion damage increased from 100 to 2,000.
- Time until the Thermite ignites decreased.
- Time until explosion slightly reduced.
- Max number reduced from 4 to 3.

Highlights of Patch 01.001.100
What are the highlights of the update? The buff for the thermite grenade is certainly one of the highlights of Patch 01.001.100, but the update brought many more special changes:
- Helldivers now take less damage from headshots, which previously dealt 100% additional damage, but now only deal 50% additional damage
- Primary weapon buffs for:
- Liberator, Liberator Carbine, Liberator Carbine, Tremor Liberator, Tenderizer, Breaker, Spray & Pray Breaker, Scythe, Crossbow, Berster, Defender, Diligence, Sniper Diligence, Blitzer, Torcher
- Secondary weapon buffs for:
- Peacemaker, Dagger, Crisper
- Damage boost for special anti-tank weapons with rockets:
- recoil-less rifle, quasar cannon, command, single-use anti-tank, spear, and patriot exosuit
- Support weapon buffs for:
- grenade launcher, laser cannon, bow launcher, railgun, stalwart, machine gun, heavy machine gun, command, flamethrower, automatic cannon
- Buffs for grenades:
- fragmentation grenade, thermite grenade
- Tactical equipment buffs:
- eagle – 500 kg bomb, eagle rockets, gatling gun, mg turret, tesla tower, heavy mg position, patriot exo-suit, emancipator exo-suit, orbital laser, orbital rail cannon, orbital gas attack
- The galactic map now shows the position of strategically important locations.
- Armor of hulks, stormers, acid titans, and stakes reduced from 5 to 4.
- Rocket devastators and cannon ships: The number of rockets is now limited and the physics collisions of the rockets are smaller
The nerfs for the armored enemies as well as the numerous buffs for various weapons and equipment are expected to significantly shake up the meta. You can look forward to digging up weapons that disappeared in the weapon cabinet months ago after being heavily nerfed.
Especially the buffs for the Breaker, the Berserker, the Railgun, and the Flamethrower might appeal to many players. On the other hand, strong weapons like the Blitzer and the Sickle were not nerfed, which means you can expect a wide arsenal of usable weapons.
