In Diablo 4, some hardcore players have already lost their characters just before Level 100. This is especially annoying when it happens due to a seemingly harmless mob. Even more frustrating is when it mocks them on Reddit.

Yes, you read that right. On Reddit, a player posted on July 30 an overview of their character’s death. This was picked up on another subreddit – by the enemy itself.
“I hate these arrogant little bastards”
What kind of enemy is it? The enemy is a “Quillrat”. An seemingly harmless, small opponent that can quickly become annoying – and deadly – due to its spikes and poison attacks. Player trivialzeros felt this after nearly 84 gameplay hours in Diablo 4.
On July 30, they posted the overview of their character’s death at Level 99 in the hardcore mode on Reddit. The cause of death states: “Murdered by: Quillrat.”
Their post currently has 4,600 upvotes and nearly 300 comments. A comment with almost 2,000 upvotes comes from GrandTheftADA: “I hate these arrogant little bastards on r/quillrat.” (via Reddit) It gets a lot of laughs. Raytheon-6 writes: “The birth of a Reddit meme is worth the sacrifice.”
Also, the comment from Graysdir receives 1,800 upvotes. He writes: “This Quillrat is currently posting on the Quillrat subreddit and says… ‘I defeated a Level 99 today!’ His fellow Quillredditors say… ‘Screenshots or it didn’t happen.’ (via Reddit).
This became a meme and even a new subreddit, created by “Killrat99”.
“Did he drop good loot?”
What is the meme about? The overview of trivialzeros’ character death was taken up on the subreddit r/quillrat. The description of the subreddit: “Quillin it.” There, players pretend to be “Quillrats” themselves. The user Killrat99 posted the overview there with the words: “I got a 99 too easy.” (via Reddit).
The users praise him for his achievement, ask him about his build. Killrat99 replies: “I was running with my Level 154 poison build when I caught this newbie.” akoforever writes: “Next, we’re going for the Level 100 Barbarian.” Others ask if he was able to level up from it and whether the player dropped good loot.
While it is annoying to lose a character just before the maximum level. But in this case, the player at least managed to bring a lot of laughs and a new meme.
