The action RPG Dauntless will be released as a free-to-play game, which raises alarm bells for some players right away.
Free-to-play is associated with the risk of pay-to-win for many. This means that developers offer items in the optional item shop that give buyers advantages over those who do not want to pay anything. The developers have now commented on this and explained how they intend to make money with Dauntless.

The item shop only offers emotes and cosmetic items
For an online game that provides ongoing service, it is vital to generate revenue over the long term. Otherwise, the developers will eventually reach a point where they can no longer maintain the operation of the game and the servers. After all, all of this incurs ongoing costs.
What you can buy in Dauntless should be cosmetic items that allow you to further customize your hero. It will not be possible to make him any stronger through items in the shop. Emotes, dyes for armor, and other similar items can be found in the shop.
There will be no pay-to-win.
Dauntless will be constantly developed – Closed beta starts
Additionally, the team stated that they are continuing to work on content for the game. Even during the beta, new areas and new creatures to fight against will be added. This includes endgame challenges and boss enemies. According to the developers, Dauntless is a game that continuously evolves, not only during the beta phases but also afterwards.
Furthermore, today, September 1st, at 9 PM, the closed beta of the game starts. New features in this version include additional Behemoths, weapons, armor, and the story will offer more content.
“The Founder’s Alpha was an inspiration for everyone here at Phoenix Labs. We worked with the community, assessed feedback, and improved Dauntless every day,” said Jesse Houston, Co-Founder and Executive Producer. “Dauntless is a living game that will continue to evolve and grow from the closed beta to the open beta and beyond its release. Today’s closed beta launch sets the stage for an exciting adventure that we want to share with the Dauntless community for years to come.”
