In Borderlands 4, you can once again choose from 4 Vault Hunters to experience the story of the shooter. One of them is Vex, who has quasi-necromantic skills.
How are Vault Hunters designed in Borderlands 4?
- Each Vault Hunter has three different action skills but can only equip one at a time.
- Each Vault Hunter has three skill trees, each based on an action skill.
- The goal should be to invest skill points into the skill tree that best fits your preferred action skill.
What kind of necromancer is she? One of the four playable characters in Borderlands 4 is Vex, a young woman who developed special Siren powers while working in retail. With these powers, Vex can create companions from phase energy that then fight alongside her – while they are not undead, the developers of the loot shooter also describe them as a type of necromancer.

Deadly Necromancy or Phase Explosions
What can Vex do? Vex relies on a type of necromancy with two of her three action skills. With her third action skill, the Siren causes and utilizes phase explosions. Here are her three skills:
- Phase Prowler – Vex creates a large cat named Rabatzi as a companion using phase energy.
- Herald of Death – Creates a phase clone of Vex that fights alongside her. The clone appears either as a phantom using firearms or as a reaper that looks like a grim reaper version of Vex and deals melee damage with a massive scythe.
- Incarnation – Causes a phase explosion that damages enemies and heals Vex. She can also perform a “Chilling Thrust” that deals damage and increases Vex’s movement speed.
Additionally, Vex has the passive ability “Phase Pact,” which adjusts her elemental type to her current weapon. This allows her to deal damage of these types with all action skills and melee attacks.
Who might be interested in Vex? If you want to play a character in Borderlands 4 that does not rely solely on classic shooter gameplay with firearms, Vex could be a good choice. If you have already enjoyed playing necromancers in games like Diablo 4, Vex and her minions are worth a look.
