In Borderlands 4, we encounter a new archvillain: The Timekeeper. But who is the new villain?
The Borderlands series has had many antagonists in the past. Whether it be bosses like Traunt (TRAAAAAUNT), the challenging Katagawa Ball, farm favorite Graveward, the Calypso Twins, or the legendary Handsome Jack – they all remain memorable in one way or another.
Now there is a new villain who wants to make our Vault Hunters’ lives difficult: The Timekeeper.
But who is this mysterious new figure? What is known so far? We summarize it for you!
Who is the Timekeeper in Borderlands 4? What is known
Borderlands 4 takes place on Kairos – a beautiful but deadly planet. Above all, it is a kind of prison world that is tyrannized by the Timekeeper.
The Timekeeper rules from the fortress city of Dominion and keeps his subjects (slash prisoners) under control with implants.
The new antagonist is described as “well-mannered and disturbingly calm tyrant”. He has a “fixation on order”, according to the official characterization of the Timekeeper. This is pretty much the opposite of what the Calypso Twins represented in Borderlands 3.
He seems to be a cold, calculating villain who exercises control over his planet with an iron fist – and has no intentions of relinquishing it. It certainly won’t sit well with him if a revolution breaks out when the moon Elpis suddenly collides with Kairos at the start of the story of Borderlands 4 and brings the long-forgotten planet back on the map.
In addition to the cybernetic implants, the Timekeeper also has another weapon he can use to keep the planet under his control: the “Order Army”. These troops seem to be loyal to the Timekeeper. Their weapons are among the new types that you can collect in Borderlands 4. They feature extra ammunition and critical hits.
Is there more behind the Timekeeper? Theories and possible spoilers

The first appearance of the Timekeeper: The Timekeeper is the major, evil final boss in Borderlands 4, but he makes an appearance in Borderlands 3: In an echo log of the Siren Nyriad. In one of her stories, “Secrets”, she talks about countless secrets of the Eridians after the Destroyer was sealed within Pandora. You can watch it for example in the video by user Kody McHugh on YouTube.
And even on Reddit, these logs regarding the Timekeeper were already discussed five years ago. Because: In the context of this message, Nyriad speaks of other monsters that are said to be slumbering in the chambers. Among them, she mentions Graveward, the “Traveller”, and – the “Timekeeper”.
Is it possible, then, that the Timekeeper is itself a Vault monster on the loose – just a different one, with its human form? Or is he a human inspired by the monster? Is the overlap coincidental?
