The dating system of Black Desert is now available in Europe as well. But how does love actually work in Black Desert and why should players court an NPC?
Love comes to Black Desert. Well, almost.
Have you always wanted to confess your love to an NPC in Black Desert? The dating system allows you to start a relationship with selected NPCs in Black Desert. These include the bearded Valks, the red-haired Rica, the mysterious Elina Leith, and many more. They all want you to compete for their favor.
Make friends. Together with other players, you first make friends with your selected NPC before you can confess your feelings to them. To do this, you choose the “Give gift” option in the conversation menu. NPCs have items they favor, which increases their friendship towards you when you give them one of those. You can only give NPCs items with a value of less than 50 million silver. If you give an NPC an item, you consume 5 stamina.
Confess your love to the NPC. Once the NPC’s friendship level with you reaches 1000, you can pour your heart out to the NPC and openly talk about the feelings you have for them. Naturally, your confession overwhelms the NPC, and they ask for some time to think. After the next maintenance, you’ll receive a response from the NPC via mail.
- If the NPC reciprocates your feelings, you receive a special title, but your friendship decreases by 10%.
- If they do not reciprocate your feelings, your friendship decreases by 5%, and you can try again.
You can only confess your love to an NPC if you are currently not in a relationship with another NPC.
Eventually, it just doesn’t fit anymore
Love is finite. Even the most beautiful time spent together comes to an end, and so love in Black Desert is time-limited. Whether you are the chosen one of the NPC for this week depends on your friendship with the NPC. The game compares the friendship values of all adventurers who have confessed their love to the selected NPC that week.
However, even if you do not have the highest friendship value of all players, there is still a chance that the NPC chooses the underdog. By the way, your new flame can receive new love confessions from other players at any time during your time together and may decide again at the end of your week together. Unless you have the highest friendship value of all players with the NPC. Then they are so happy with you that you continue your relationship. Maintaining relationships is therefore essential.
Black Desert: How to get the titles “Womanizer” and “Casanova”
What do you get for all this effort? You receive a special title for one week, but this also disappears with the end of your relationship. However, there are two permanent titles that you can brag about in Black Desert. If you win five NPCs as your partners, you can call yourself a “Womanizer”. And if it’s a total of ten NPCs, you are a true “Casanova”.

And finally, a player writes on Reddit that relationships in real life function just like in Black Desert. They only last a week.
