What kind of Anime is this? Let’s Play is a Webtoon by Leeanne M. Krecic (Mongie), which is set to receive a similarly titled anime adaptation in October 2025. The anime was first announced at the New York Comic Con in 2023.
- The story centers around young game developer Samara “Sam” Young from Los Angeles. She fulfills a dream and publishes her first indie title, Ruminate.
- The reviews are positive until a well-known streamer named Marshall Law gives the game a devastating review. Subsequently, his fans bombard the indie game with negative ratings.
- To make matters worse, she discovers that this hater becomes her new neighbor. Sam tries to avoid Marshall, but the two develop a complicated relationship.
- As if that weren’t complex enough, Sam’s best friend Link has feelings for her. Additionally, there is a manager at her father’s workplace who shows interest in her.
The anime sounds like a small harem, but it is much more than that. The source material already shows why you should look forward to the anime.
Positive and negative aspects of gaming
What is known about the anime? The first episode of the anime was already shown at Anime Expo 2025 in Los Angeles. The director of the anime is Daiki Tomiyasu, who was responsible for Pokémon Sun & Moon. Another notable person from the anime is Kana Hanazawa, who will voice Sam. You know her as Mitsuri Kanroji from Demon Slayer, the Love Hashira.
What makes the story so special? The genre of the series and the webtoon is a mix of romance, comedy, and slice of life. It not only tells about the beautiful sides of the developer and the streamer but also about the darker sides. Marshall struggles with depression and the pressure of the public.
Even the introverted Sam has to deal with the loud world. She is a rather extroverted character who does not want to be the center of the public as a person.
Nevertheless, the anime does not lose its humor. Here and there, memes or references from gaming are included.
Is the webtoon already finished? The webtoon has been running since 2017 and published its last chapter in September 2022. Since then, the story has been on hiatus with an unknown time frame.
On Reddit, fans speculate that the author wants to switch platforms due to insufficient promotion. Since Webtoon would retain the digital distribution rights for 3 years, she would have to wait a bit longer before she can relaunch her story on another platform. The community speculates autumn 2025 as the timeframe.
