According to current statistics, 18,945 new games have already been released on Steam in 2024: An indie game, Balatro, has received the best ratings on Steam and now, during the holidays, 10 months after release, it has more players on Steam than ever before.
This is what the statistics say: According to an analysis by SteamDB, 18,945 new games have been released on Steam in 2024. That’s another 5,000 more than in 2023, which was already a record high:
- In 2006, only 70 new games were released on Steam
- In 2014, the number of new games on Steam reached 1,745 for the first time, hitting four digits
- In 2021, the number of new games on Steam hit 11,307, marking the first time it was in five digits.
However, of the nearly 19,000 new games released in 2024, only a few are truly played a lot.
With 96.75% positive reviews on Steam, no game has been recommended more than Balatro:
Steam is a two-class society: Only 3,964 get the important features
How many notable games have been released on Steam in 2024? Steam is clearly a two-class society because not all games receive the same recognition on Steam.
Only 3,964 games out of nearly 19,000 received the most important Steam features, allowing them to grant measurable achievements or trading cards, badges, and emotes.
Only one full-price game makes it into the Top 10 of the highest-rated new games on Steam in 2024
These were the best new games of 2024: Ranking the new games by their ratings on Steam, free titles and indie games are mostly at the top.
The best new title of 2024 is the card game Balatro, created by a single developer. The game has now reached a new player peak with 39,430 concurrent players during the holidays. Balatro is priced at €12.59 on sale.
Other new top titles include MiSide, WEBFISHING, The WereCleaner, and Sheepy: A Short Adventure.
The first “full-price game” with a rating of over 95% positive reviews on Steam is Black Myth Wukong. The next game that costs more than €40 is Silent Hill 2 in 66th place.
Balatro is also such a wonderful Cinderella story because the developer was completely surprised by its success: He thought 10 people would play it and he would have to go back to normal work: But a million buy his 1st game on Steam
