A popular tool that is supposed to bypass the restrictions for upgrading to Windows 11 is now being offered for download through a fake site – users risk malware on their PC.
What exactly happened? A developer of the official tool FlyOOBE (formerly “Flyby11”) warns that a seemingly identical version is being offered on an unofficial website that is not associated with the project (via Toms Hardware).
The official GitHub page of FlyOOBE points out that a domain (“flyoobe.net”) with an unauthorized build exists – and this could be equipped with malware, backdoors, or other harmful software (via GitHub). The download should therefore only be obtained from the official GitHub page.
Basically, there is also another possibility that you can install Windows 11 on a system for which it is not officially intended.
In both variants, the advantage is that you do not have to buy new hardware or switch the operating system. Therefore, there are no costs involved.
Which tool is it and what can it do? FlyOOBE is a free open-source tool by the developer “builtbybel” that allows users to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 even if the hardware does not actually meet Microsoft’s official requirements.
According to CHIP.de, the tool belongs to a new generation of tools that specifically bypass Microsoft’s strict security checks during the installation process. For many users, three points are particularly problematic:
- No TPM 2.0 module (hardware security module) installed,
- Secure Boot is not activated or not available,
- Processor not on Microsoft’s official compatibility list.
FlyOOBE is the successor to the previous version Flyby11 and offers a simple solution: It integrates into the Windows setup and systematically removes the hardware checks. This allows installation even on older PCs.
Additionally, Windows 11 can now also be customized to individual needs. This is also where the name “OOBE” comes from, as it is Microsoft’s abbreviation for “out of the box experience”, which is what you see when you first start a newly installed Windows (via microsoft).
Windows 11 is the current operating system from Microsoft and is now used on many computers. Nevertheless, many users are unsure whether switching from Windows 10 or an older version is really worthwhile.
