In Baldur’s Gate 3 there are various methods to make battles against strong bosses easier. You can ambush them or talk your way out of a fight – But one player has now found another way to make certain battles easier.
Which bosses are being referred to? It concerns, on the one hand, the (not so) good, old Vettel from Act 1 of the game, and on the other hand, the undead necromancer Balthazar from the second Act.
A player (Flipsktr230 on Reddit) has discovered that you can use the inventories of these two bosses to make their battles significantly easier – or also harder if you reverse his hint.
He explains that you can steal from Vettel and Balthazar, causing them to lose some powerful buffs that they use in their battles. For both use not only spells but also items that can simply be taken away if you are clever enough.
Here you can see the animated short film for Patch 8 of Baldur’s Gate 3:
Even bosses have an inventory that can be cleverly emptied
What effects does this have with Aunt Ethel? Anyone who steals from Vettel before the confrontation can take her invisibility potion, allowing her to become invisible in the first round. Contrary to the assumptions of many players, she does not use a spell for this, but the item.
If you do not possess particularly skilled hands, you can also achieve this in a completely fair and peaceful way. In the druid grove, where you first encounter Aunt Ethel, you can simply buy the potion from her, making it no longer available to her.
Here, another player makes an important note: The Reddit user ClassicSherbert152 comments under the post that she can use all items she was sold in the later fight: “I heard horror stories about Ethel throwing smoke bomb at people.”
What happens if you steal from Balthazar? Those who dare to rob the necromancer in the Shar Temple can take a scroll with the spell “Haste” from him, which would then allow Balthazar to give himself double the number of actions for 3 rounds. He possesses powerful spells like Cloudkill, which can deal significant damage to multiple characters and can continually revive his undead minions.
Without this Haste, you have a significant advantage and can defeat the group of undead faster.
Baldur’s Gate 3 offers several options for dealing with bosses, as you often engage in dialogue with many of them beforehand. Those who are particularly clever and charismatic can escape fighting with some of them, and some bosses can even literally be “talked to death.” Here on MeinMMO you can find out which bosses it is especially worth doing this with: 7 enemies in Baldur’s Gate 3 that you should rather talk to
