Marcel “MontanaBlack” Eris is one of the biggest streamers on the German Twitch. As such, he has to be careful about what he says, the 36-year-old believes.
The Twitch streamer MontanaBlack is actually not known for holding back his opinions. For example, when it comes to:
- Insulting new Twitch streamers,
- Defending swastika NFTs
- or complaining about the German state wanting to take taxes from him
In a joint stream with his colleague AbuGoku, MontanaBlack explained on June 2, 2024, on Twitch that he would “like to express [his] honest opinion” on some topics.
MontanaBlack fears being canceled
Why does MontanaBlack keep his opinions to himself? The Twitch streamer fears possible reactions on social media. On “Twitter” [now X], “all the leftists- uh, left idiots” might unite to cancel him.
However, the Twitch streamer adds that it doesn’t necessarily have to be “the leftists” who could come up against him – but perhaps also the “Green voters”.
What consequences does the streamer fear? MontanaBlack seems to worry that business partners might end their collaboration with him due to possible public pressure. He cites the grocery retailer Rewe as an example, which could remove his energy drink from their program.
All of this just because he once honestly expressed his opinion on the internet, according to MontanaBlack. You can see the corresponding stream clip here:
However, it’s not just about himself for MontanaBlack: he is no longer a small streamer and has a responsibility to many people. Employees, as well as business partners, are financially dependent on him.
The Twitch streamer finds it “very unfortunate” that he sometimes cannot say “a little more”.
The right to free speech is enshrined in the German constitution. You can read more about this apparent contradiction at National Geographic.
An example of what it can look like when a major Twitch streamer is supposedly canceled on X is the discussion around Gronkh’s statements about the controversial author J.K. Rowling last year: Twitch: Fans support Gronkh with €37,000 after the turmoil surrounding Hogwarts Legacy – “Should have more shitstorms”
