New World – More fun for me on PC than on console
The Aeternum revamp had a hard time luring me back to the servers regularly last year. The launch date was poorly set in October 2024, with a lot of competition. My time usually went to Throne and Liberty or Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
In the end, I found it nice to be able to play New World from the couch with the controller, but my newly created character did not get beyond the 30s. Since, in my opinion, the first seasons for Aeternum set the wrong focus (on seasonal servers and things like PvP and survival), that did not change for a long time.
However, with the new Season 10, this looks different, as a new area with story and PvE content, fresh group content, and a reworking of endgame progression was introduced for the standard servers.
So I grabbed one of my old characters, this time back on PC, and started leveling. Since he is now in his 50s, I can’t say anything about the new content yet. What I can say is: New World is currently more fun for me than ever before.
This is certainly due to a combination of several factors: the old strengths (the audiovisual quality of Aeternum as well as the strong crafting system), various improvements that came with the Aeternum revamp (such as for quests and the very fast leveling phase), and the fact that I find New World aligns much better with mouse and keyboard rather than with the controller.
Additionally, in New World – similar to Pax Dei – a lot is happening again right now. Everywhere I meet other players who are also leveling, questing, or farming. The chat is buzzing. People are constantly searching for parties or guilds for reinforcements. Interestingly, a similar experience was made by MeinMMO author Nicole: New World couldn’t keep me at launch – Now I’ve sunk 45 hours in a week
