Romances in Baldur’s Gate 3 are great. But the rejections your companions can give you can be really painful. You might go to bed crying.

In Baldur’s Gate 3, most of the time it’s about a mysterious cult, plenty of side quests, and finding creative ways to kill yourself and all NPCs in the game as efficiently as possible.

But sometimes, amidst this chaos, there’s a little bit of time for romance and you try to get one or the other in the camp – only to fail regularly. That the lines from those beloved companions can sometimes hurt, is shown by a post in the subreddit of Baldur’s Gate 3 that summarizes many experiences.

Especially Astarion is known as a heartbreaker. This is not only because he likes to reject players, but also because of his particularly dismissive line that is hard to beat in arrogance and malice.

“It’s not you. It’s me. I have standards.”

These words from Astarion have sparked the Reddit post from Direwisp, which has now collected over 6,000 upvotes. In it, others also share their experiences and reveal with what crushing words they have been rejected.

So Astarion says in response to the question of what to do in the evening besides drinking and partying:

“Sex is great! Not with you, of course.”

By the way, Karlach can be just as devastating. When she is asked: “Are you and Tav actually together?” she likes to respond with:

“Eww, of course not, we’re just comrades.”

Yeah, Karlach, that hurts.

But Shadowheart can also be pretty cold – but that’s why we kind of love her. When you ask her “too early” about intimate activities, she responds:

“I’m not one of the tiefling maidens with sparkling eyes that you just saved. You’ll have to show more legwork before I let you persuade me to hip work.”
