There are many MOBA games, but in 2D graphics and as a sidescroller? Publisher Nexon aims to change this with the recently announced title Hyper Universe.
The classic MOBA game like League of Legends or Heroes of the Storm is played from an isometric top-down view. This way, players always have the gameplay in their field of view and can execute optimal skill shots. However, there are other ways to do it, as shown by the shooter MOBA Battleborn.
Weird tentacle creatures, superhero girls, and mongooses on rhinos!
Hyper Universe from the Korean publisher Nexon takes it a step further and focuses on iconic 2D graphics and sidescroller gameplay – with the genre elements of a MOBA! Two teams compete against each other, and each of the playable heroes has a specific MOBA role, such as tank, supporter, carry, or damage dealer. The heroes, referred to as “Hypers”, are all outlandish and quirky. Want some examples?
You can play as a mongoose riding a rhino. Or an admiral tentacle monster. Or a superheroine who can crash through walls. So far, there is only a mix of trailers and gameplay sequences of Hyper Universe available to see. A release is planned for 2017. At the Pax South fair, Nexon will showcase more of the game.
