Jaryd “summit1g” Lazar (34) is one of the biggest shooter streamers on Twitch. Thanks to PUBG, he has been able to build a large audience. He returned to the battle royale after years – and had a lot of fun again.
Who is it about? With over 6 million followers on Twitch, Jaryd “summit1g” Lazar is one of the biggest streamers on the streaming platform. He is known primarily for impressively good gameplay in shooters like Counter-Strike, Valorant, or recently Escape from Tarkov.
PUBG was also one of his biggest games. However, he hasn’t played it for years. Until 2019, he played the battle royale regularly in front of his viewers, since then only occasionally in winter 2020.
Now he has returned to the game after years. After that, he only had positive things to say about it.
Summit1g exemplifies the ‘resurrection’ of PUBG
Why is he playing PUBG again? PUBG is currently experiencing a kind of resurrection. This is because the game switched to a free-to-play model in January 2022 .
This step seems to be a success: the game almost doubled its player numbers overnight.
Summit1g has also tried the game again because of this. After playing the game extensively on stream, he summarized:
I think today was a good day in PUBG. It went well. I believe in the game again. I have hope again. […] PUBG isn’t going away anytime soon, folks. Thank God people still play it.
summit1g in his Twitch stream
Why did he stop playing the game? Especially during his streams in 2019, the streamer apparently lost the fun in the game. There was also more and more competition for the battle royale on the market. These other games seemed to have been more fun for him.
Especially after the release of CoD Warzone, he expressed great criticism of PUBG. On Twitter, shortly after the release of Warzone, he said that PUBG was far too slow in comparison. He emphasized this opinion with a turtle emoji:
At the beginning of 2022, the streamer found joy in PUBG Battlegrounds again. Whether this resurrection of the shooter, which summit1g represents here, will last, remains to be seen.
Currently, it seems to appeal to both new players and old veterans – and to excite them again.
That summit1g is also a veteran on Twitch was recently demonstrated by him with Escape from Tarkov. After he was once again annoyed by a pesky stream sniper, he showed how to deal perfectly with such a situation:
