The shopping carts bring vehicles for the first time to Fortnite: Battle Royale – and they are extremely practical. In this guide, we show you how to make the most out of the shopping carts!
Besides all the different grenades, weapons, and items, Fortnite: Battle Royale was actually missing just one means of transportation. With the shopping carts, players now have a vehicle that can quickly get them to the safe zone, which can be used offensively and defensively.
We will show you in the guide how the vehicles work – and what cool stunts you can pull off with them.

This is how shopping carts work
Up to two players can sit in a shopping cart: one driver and one passenger, who can happily shoot around during the ride.
If you use the shopping cart alone, you cannot shoot, but you can switch to the passenger seat and shoot from there (though logically you lose control).

How fast can the shopping cart go? With the shopping carts, you are significantly faster than on foot. So they give you some time in a rush. As the driver, you can influence the speed.
You can run to accelerate the cart. If you stand on the crossbars, you gain momentum, but you will continuously slow down. Those who master the balance of both movement patterns can get really fast.
If you go downhill, the cart accelerates significantly, which leads to a loss in maneuverability.

Can I be shot at while using a shopping cart? Yes, the shopping carts do not protect you from enemy fire.
Can I use healing items while the shopping cart is moving? Yes, you can! The game treats players in shopping carts as if they are standing still – so you can happily drink potions.
Can you build from a shopping cart? This is actually possible, but it’s reserved for the passenger. While the driver pushes the cart, the passenger can happily build stairs up to the sky.

What about fall damage? Generally, shopping carts should cause fall damage from great heights, but this mechanic doesn’t seem to work quite yet. Many players report absurd stunts that can be survived unscathed.
While Epic will likely work on this, players create absurd and funny videos featuring shopping carts!
The shopping cart rocket turbo
With rockets, shopping carts can be accelerated. Don’t believe it? The following video provides the proof:
If a rocket is fired back from the cart, the shopping cart receives a short boost. Although this is a waste of ammunition, it is quite fun – especially if you are on a slope and already have some speed.
Skispringing with shopping carts
Location: The bridge northwest of the prison. When the comet struck, part of the bridge was blown away. Players now try to jump this gap with a shopping cart, which works better at times:
In this picture, a player discovered the sad remains of a failed jump attempt:

Shopping carts and skydiving – the perfect combo!
The following videos show that the physics of shopping carts still doesn’t work perfectly. Small bumps on the ground (fallen opponents or stones) cause the carts to react surprisingly:
The following video is titled by the posting Redditor as “Here you can observe the flying fish in its natural habitat”:
This clever player proves that it’s not just nonsense you can do with the vehicles by using the shopping cart as a rolling bomb:
Due to the physics effects and the very inconsistent fall damage, shopping carts will surely be further revised. With them, Epic has definitely introduced a new tactical component into the game that can be used excellently both offensively and defensively.
What do you think of the shopping carts? Have you seen any other cool actions with them?
