After a new major article about the sexism scandal surrounding Activision Blizzard, voices are now being raised demanding the resignation of the CEO. But will that really happen? We discuss it in the latest episode of the MeinMMO Podcast.
This is the topic: Since July, the scandal surrounding the developer and publisher Activision Blizzard has been raging. After a California state agency sued the company for sexism and civil rights violations, more and more ugly details have come to light through investigations and interviews with employees.
In the latest research on the topic by the Wall Street Journal (via WSJ), the CEO of the publisher, Bobby Kotick, was also accused of being an accomplice and complicit. Accordingly, voices quickly arose that he should resign as the CEO of the company.
The board of Activision Blizzard has repeatedly assured their support for their CEO, but there are many opposing voices:
- Some investors holding shares worth about €275 million are demanding his resignation
- over 1,000 Blizzard employees have signed a petition for his resignation.
- Partner companies like Sony and Microsoft (via GamePro) have already criticized Activision Blizzard.
Additionally, the publisher’s stock has been on a downward trend since July and has already lost about 27% of its original value in the last 6 months.
But how likely is it that Bobby Kotick will resign? Editor-in-chief Leya Jankowski and editorial director Gerd Schuhmann have tackled this question.
