Starfield will be released on September 6 for PC and Xbox, and has already shown much of the game, which piques curiosity. Included were details about building your own ships, which allow conclusions about the maximum size.
One thing up front: We cannot yet say with complete certainty how large you can build your ships in Starfield. However, during the Starfield Direct, there were some hints about what the feature looks like in detail, which also allows conclusions about the possible sizes of your ships.
And there is a lot possible, as can already be seen with the “Transformer” replica that took off during the Starfield Direct (see title image).
How large the ships can currently be and why there are still larger ships in the game, we will show you on MeinMMO.

Building feature gives hint about the size
How large can ships be in Starfield? Ships could be up to 160 meters long and wide. This corresponds to approximately the length of 1.5 football fields.
Whether the 160 meters also apply to the height is unclear. The tallest ship during the Starfield Direct was the replica Transformer, which was built a total of 9 modules high.
Where does the number come from? The 160 meters were derived from the markings that were visible during the Starfield Direct in the shipbuilding mode.
Based on the ships shown, viewers have calculated that the markings are 4 meters apart. Each quadrant is 20 markings long, totaling 40 x 40 markings. This yields a theoretical maximum length and width of 160 meters.
For such a mega ship, you would probably have to make some sandwiches in Starfield. A fan has calculated that it might not be as many as you think.
How certain is this? There are still some questions open:
- Can you even build to the edge of the hangar?
- Are there hangars that are even larger?
- Is the size of your own ship determined by skills?
- Are there other restrictions that are not yet known?
- Can you capture large combat ships, maybe even build them?
Especially because of the large combat ships, it may be that you can own even larger ships. However, it remains unclear whether or how you can get your hands on the parts.
The Starfield Direct has, however, raised many hopes that the shipbuilding feature can meet the expectations set. And if ships can indeed be built that are as large as 1.5 football fields, then that is already a highlight.
