Schedule 1 is the hit on Steam where fans can get involved in drug dealing with their own character. You enjoy the shady life on the streets and make a lot of money, but now fans are complaining about an achievement because it is said to be a malicious reference to a racist remark.
Which achievement is being referred to? It is the achievement “Indian Dealer.” To earn this, players must sell something to a customer and then quickly steal the sold item back from the customer. The term seems unusual at first glance, but some fans see a connection to the derogatory expression “Indian Giver.”
This expression originated during the early European colonization of North America, when Europeans did not understand the indigenous people’s barter system. When the Native Americans gave something away, they expected a return or their traded item back.
From that, the expression developed to describe someone who wants something back for what was given or expects an equivalent return. Due to the negative connotation of the word associated with Indigenous peoples, the term is therefore considered racist today.
Some fans have been bothered by the name of the achievement since the discovery of the title. They want the developer of Schedule 1 to take action now.
Fans demand the removal of the achievement
How does the community react? On x.com and the bug report from Steam, fans are expressing their opinions about the achievement. They celebrate the game, but feel that this designation is outdated and racist. They are saddened by this because Schedule 1 is a very good game. To prevent any negative light from falling on the hit, the achievement should be removed.
While some fans are equally horrified by the naming of the achievement, many cannot understand this demand. They associate the developer’s choice with the game and see no problem with it. The following can be heard in the X post:
- “You are playing a video game where the goal is to be a drug dealer. It’s just a joke, no reason to cry.”
- “Why are people so easily offended (even on behalf of others) when they are playing games about selling drugs and shooting people?”
- “Yes, the game about drug trade and killing people, and the only problem is a silly joke.”
Schedule 1 does not take itself seriously. Therefore, the choice of achievement could be intended as a pure joke rather than chosen with malicious intent to be racist. So far, however, there has been no response from Tyler, the developer of Schedule 1.
However, it is quite possible, as the game is very community-oriented, that Tyler will address the issue and may comment on it. Thus far, we cannot provide any updates.
