Lord of the Rings Online: It’s Getting Serious – Update 20 Leads to the Black Gate of Mordor

In the fantasy MMORPG The Lord of the Rings Online, update 20 has been released today. This leads to the “Black Gate”, to the gates of Mordor.

During the Christmas season, a lot happened in The Lord of the Rings Online. The development team parted ways with Turbine, became independent as Standing Stone Games, and announced that the fantasy MMORPG will continue to be developed for many years: the license is secure. This had worried fans for a long time.

The team has big plans for the summer: Mordor is set to receive a proper, large expansion for LOTRO after many years.

Additionally, the team promises a revision of the animations and vows to continue the story of The Lord of the Rings even after the lore known from the books has seemingly come to an end. A new race, the High Elves, will also be introduced to The Lord of the Rings Online.

Update 20 brings 3 new regions, 90 quests

Today, update 20 for The Lord of the Rings Online was released, which is set to pave the way for the major showdown in Mordor.

With update 20, the Epic Story begins in Volume IV, Book 8. There will be the confrontation between the forces of the West and Sauron’s armies in the Battle of the Black Gate. Here, Aragorn attempts to distract Sauron’s eye from this “Frodo doing his thing” stealth mission. Perhaps you have heard of it.

In total, three new regions are coming to The Lord of the Rings Online: the Dead Marshes, Dagorlad, and the Slag Hills. The developers promise more than 90 tasks and 30 deeds.

Two new dungeons are added: the Teeth of Mordor and the Maggot Holes.

The update has been live for a few hours now, and Sauron’s armies are waiting for your visit. Players are to gather supplies and armor to prepare the army of the West for battle. Unique rewards await.
