Even though the ring is destroyed, the developers of the MMORPG The Lord of the Rings Online have big plans. What can players expect from the MMORPG in 2018 and beyond?
In an interview with Destructoid, Ben “DrOctothorpe” Schneider, lead designer of The Lord of the Rings Online, stated that they currently have very big plans regarding the future of the game. Players can expect many more exciting adventures.
There’s plenty of material for more adventures
There is still much to tell and the world of Middle-earth is very large. The team has a lot of ideas for this:
- New regions are to be added, including Umbar, Harad, Rhûn, Lithlad, and more
- The team wants to create all of Middle-earth in the game
- The coronation of Aragorn and his marriage to Arwen are important to the developers
- The attack on the Shire is a scenario that many players desire
- The reign of King Aragorn would provide much material for exciting adventures
Lore expert helps navigate cliffs
However, the game’s license only covers The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. The Silmarillion, which tells the older history of the world of Middle-earth, is not part of the license and therefore cannot be taken into account. To avoid any issues and still be able to tell exciting new stories that fit the lore, the team has hired an expert who is in contact with so-called Tolkien professors who know all of the author’s works, J.R.R. Tolkien, inside and out.
