At Blizzcon 2019, along with Overwatch 2, a new hero was introduced that some may already know: Sojourn. Details about the new hero, however, were not revealed by Chief Jeff Kaplan. Nevertheless, we already know some things.
Who is Sojourn? Sojourn is the first Canadian hero of Overwatch and holds a fairly high rank within the organization in the game. She has previously appeared in Overwatch:
- In the first animated short “Recall”, she can be seen in Winston’s database (At: 7Min. 21 Sec.)
- In the teaser for the “Storm Rising” event, she explains mission details to Soldier: 76
- During the “Storm Rising” event, the heroes follow her leads
Sojourn is depicted as a middle-aged Black woman with gray or white hair and apparently has some cybernetic enhancements or a high-tech suit. She appears with Overwatch 2.
New info about Sojourn in Overwatch 2
This has already been seen: In the new gameplay trailer for Overwatch 2, Sojourn was also briefly seen. However, only her appearance, her weapon, and a scene that appears to represent a highlight intro were shown.
In Sojourn’s face, some ornaments can be seen that resemble cybernetic implants or enhancements on the cheekbones. However, her weapon is particularly prominent:
This seems to either be clipped to her suit or directly connected to her body. It is therefore possible that she directly controls the weapon, or that it is even merged with her. Her highlight intro showcases another weapon (image below).
What can Sojourn now? Sojourn’s role and abilities can only be speculated upon so far. Her weapon and some aspects of her appearance resemble Cyborg from the DC universe.
Her seemingly average height and the weapon suggest that she will likely be a DPS hero or a DPS/Tank hybrid, similar to how Brigitte is a healer/Tank hybrid.
Initial fan speculation already compares Sojourn to Soldier: 76, with her main weapon seeming to either indicate a strong particle cannon akin to Zarya’s weapon or a rapid-fire rifle similar to Orisa’s
The next heroes of Overwatch
When will Sojourn be released? So far, it has not been confirmed when Sojourn will be released. However, she is set to debut as a new hero for Overwatch 2. She has not been specifically mentioned for Overwatch (1).
Accordingly, it might take a while before Sojourn arrives.
Which heroes will be released next? Before that, there will likely be a few more heroes for Overwatch. Blizzard also showcased the new hero Echo during the presentation of Overwatch 2, and she may even be the next hero 32.
