The way Caps work in Fallout 76 is somewhat different from the other games in the post-apocalyptic RPG series. Nevertheless, you should always try to collect as many bottle caps as possible.
Bottle Caps – an Important Currency
What do you need the Caps for? There are basically three important uses for bottle caps:
- Fast Travel: Once you unlock fast travel, you pay with Caps to be able to travel to certain locations with just one click. However, you must have visited those places before.
- Medical Supplies from Vending Machines: In cities and outposts, you can find vending machines that sell you “Consumables”. These refill your health, but the items are very expensive!
- Purchase of Blueprints: While you will find blueprints here and there, you can also buy them for Caps at the Greenbrier Hotel.
This is how you get Caps
How do you get Caps in the game? There are many ways to get bottle caps. For example, you find Caps occasionally when you defeat enemies or discover loot. We will now introduce you to some lucrative ways to get Caps.
Search for Bottle Cap Hides: It pays off to thoroughly search houses and shops. You often find hidden spots that contain several Caps.
Complete Group Events: In Fallout 76, there are events that are essentially designed for player groups, which promise some rewards in the form of Caps. Events may look like this:
- Escort Mr. Messenger: You can also easily bring the robot to his destination alone, but it will be easier with friends.
- Power Plant Restart: For this event, you need to find teammates to get a power plant back online.
It is important to search for events that are marked nearby on the map. Events are time-limited, and if you want to complete one that you need to travel to, the fast travel will cost you some Caps.
Complete the Main Quest: Throughout the main mission, you will receive Caps repeatedly. Additionally, the Overseer will provide you with resources that you would otherwise have to buy.
Also, assist other players in completing the story quests. For missions that the party leader completes, you will receive some Caps as a reward.
Utilize Important Perks: There are Perk cards that help you earn more Caps.
- Caps Collector: You gain more Caps from bottle cap hides on the map.
- Fortune Finder: This ability signals through an audio prompt where a bottle cap hide is located.
Become a Bounty Hunter: By hunting players on whom a bounty is placed, you can earn Caps. Defeat the wanted player, and the bounty will be paid from their Caps.
