Yes, we know that including this series is definitely controversial for this list!
But the “Lord of the Rings” stories are hardly thinkable without the fantasy genre. Thus, the ranking starts with “The Rings of Power”, a prequel to the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy and the Hobbit films.
With a rating of 7.0 out of 10 stars, 33,108 IMDb users rated the series quite well. Upon release, the series divided viewers’ opinions.
The Rings of Power received crushing reviews due to review bombing (via GameStar), meaning the writing of negative reviews in protest over a specific aspect. The content and look of the series were also partly criticized for appearing cheap despite its high budget.
With a massive budget of almost 500 million dollars , the series set new standards in terms of production costs. Despite the review bombing, The Rings of Power also found its fans and received positive feedback, especially from critics.
