The eternal debate over whether Lion El’Jonson or Leman Russ is the better fighter has divided the community for years. The two Primarchs are locked in eternal rivalry, leading Dark Angels and Space Wolves to frequently hold ritual duels.
In fact, there was a very long duel between Russ and Jonson that pushed both Primarchs to their limits. In the end, Jonson won the fight and knocked Leman Russ to the ground—albeit presumably only because Russ viewed the duel at that moment not as an honorable contest but more as a friendly brawl.
In terms of combat strength, the two are equal; while Russ is physically stronger, Jonson is the better swordsman, and in an endurance duel, that quality ultimately leads to victory. Can reducing errors in combat.
Jonson’s achievements also include victories over Konrad Curze and Angron, both fallen Primarchs who are among the strongest fighters. Furthermore, Lion El’Jonson is regarded as the best strategist among the Primarchs overall—after the traitor Horus. Jonson, like his Dark Angels, employs a variety of tactics in battle, which ultimately makes the chapter the strongest of the Space Marines.
